In 1981 Sir John King, was appointed chariman with the goal of perparing the airline for privatisation. Colin Marshall was hired as the CEO in 1983, and together they transformed the loss making giant airline into one of the most profitable air carriers in the world. In the 90's BA became the world most profitable airline under the slogan "The World's Favourite Airline".
